Second Grade – Week of May 11, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

Our field trip to the Long Island Children’s Museum was truly wonderful!

Our Spring Concert is this Tuesday evening. Your child should be dropped off at our classroom between 6:30 and 6:45 pm. The program begins in the gym at 7:00 pm. Thank you for helping your child memorize the words of the songs he/she will be singing.

Please have a ruler with centimeters and inches at home so that your child can complete his/her math homework this week. If your child will be doing homework at PLUS, please pack the home ruler in his/her backpack for use at PLUS. Thank you.

Thanks to all for your kind words and gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week.

There will be a spelling test on Wednesday and a Social Studies test on Friday. Review materials will be provided.

This week, we will be

  • Focusing on the letters of James, Paul, and John in Religion
  • Continuing with Unit 5 of our Wonders curriculum, including syllables, phoneme deletion, variant vowel sounds, vowel teams/digraphs, realistic fiction, paragraph opinion writing, decodable readers, narrative nonfiction, callouts, graphic organizers, vocabulary development, comprehension, possessive and reflexive pronouns, letter punctuation, suffixes, idioms, and high-frequency words in ELA
  • Completing Module 18, “Length in Inches, Feet, and Yards,” and diving into Module 19, “Length in Centimeters and Meters,” in Math
  • Reflecting on American holidays in Chapter 6, “Our American Culture,” in My World in Social Studies

Specials will include Library, Art, SEL, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
