Mrs. Skoch’s Updates for the Week of September 29, 2025

Hello, everyone! We have a busy week ahead of us, so here are the class updates.

6th Religion

We have been studying The descendants of Abraham, and we are continuing this week with learning more about Jacob’s journey back to his homeland with his family, and his own faith struggles with God. Then, we will learn about his son Joseph and how he ended up in Egypt. The memory verse this week is Romans 8:28, which goes with the lesson on Joseph.

6th Social Studies

In social studies this week, we will learn about the world’s first writing system, cuneiform. Then, the students will get to try out writing in cuneiform on actual clay, just like the ancient Mesopotamians. To close out the week, we will learn about the first empires- Sargon’s empire, and then the formation of the Babylonian Empire under Hammurabi.

7th Religion

This week in religion we will focus on the life of Jacob’s son, Joseph, and how his unexpected life in Egypt saved his family. On Friday, we will begin reviewing for the test on Unit 1, which will be on Wednesday, October 8th. The memory verse is Genesis 50:20.

7th Social Studies

To start the week, we will study the very first English settlements in North America. This lesson will lead into the Topic 2 Project which will have the students researching common myths and misconceptions about this time period, such as the true story of Pocahontas, what was the First Thanksgiving really like, and what was the actual cause of the Salem Witch Trials. The students will be placed in groups to work on the project, and most of the work will be done in class. They will present next week.

8th Religion

This week in religion, we will study Jacob returning home after fleeing for his life after deceiving his father and brother. Then, we will study what happened to his son Joseph while he was a servant in Potiphar’s house, and what that can teach us about our modern day marriages and relationships. The memory verse this week is 1 John 1:8-9. The students will have their test on Unit 1 on Thursday, October 9th.

8th Social Studies

This week we will continue studying how the expansion of the railroad affected the nation. Then, we will learn about the cattle kingdom of the west and the agricultural system overall. We will especially look at how African American cowhands helped shape the West.
