Welcome back to a new week! This is a big week for each of the social studies classes, as they all have their first unit test this week.
6th Religion
In religion this week, we will continue learning about Abraham’s family. We will learn about the birth of his promised son, Isaac, and then we will learn about the contentious relationship between his twin grandsons, Jacob and Esau. Throughout these lessons we will see how God continues to fulfill His promises, despite the sinfulness of the people. The memory verse this week is Genesis 28:15a. The students should study from the Google Classroom.
6th Social Studies
The students will have their test on Topic 1- Prehistory on Wednesday, September 24th. Then we will begin learning about the first civilization in Mesopotamia.

At the end of the week we will learn about Jacob’s son, Joseph, being sold into slavery. The theme this week will be how God can take terrible circumstances and use them for good. The memory verse this week is Psalm 46:1.

The students will take their test on Topic 1 on Monday, September 22nd. Then we will begin learning about the Spanish conquest of the Americas and then the exploration and settlement of colonies by the French, Dutch, and English.

The students will work on this independently, not in class. The students will choose a social/ emotional issue common to adolescents, and use the Bible to prepare a “toolkit” to help someone going through that issue. Later in the week we will move on to learning about how trust was pivotal in the relationship between Isaac and Rebekah. The memory work this week is the Lord’s Prayer.
8th Social Studies
The students will have their test on Topic 9- The Reconstruction Era on Wednesday, September 24th. Then we will completely switch gears and start studying the time of the Second Industrial Revolution and the Westward movement. We will begin with learning about how the mining and railroad industries shaped the nation in the years following the Civil War.
