Welcome back! It is another short week, but we still have lots to do. Here are the updates.
6th Religion
This week we will start Unit 2 which will cover the Exodus from Egypt up through conquest of the Promised Land. We will learn about the Israelites being enslaved in Egypt, and then the Ten Plagues God sent to persuade Pharaoh to set them free. There is no memory quiz this week.
6th Social Studies
The students will have their test on Topic 2- Mesopotamia on Tuesday. Then, we will begin Topic 3- Ancient Egypt and Kush. They will learn about Egypt’s unique geography and how Upper and Lower Egypt came to be ruled by one pharaoh. Next week, they will learn about mummification first hand as we try the process on apple slices over the next few weeks.
7th Religion
In religion this week, we will learn about God giving Moses the Ten Commandments and how they apply to us as modern Christians. Then, we will learn about how several people, such as Aaron, Hur, and his father-in-law Jethro, all helped him as he led the people to the Promised Land. There is no memory quiz this week.
7th Social Studies
This week we will wrap up Topic 2. We will study the culture that developed in the American Colonies and then how the government and trade policies developed, and led directly to the American Revolution. The test on Topic 2 will be on Tuesday, October 28th.
8th Religion
In religion this week, we will study the crossing of the Red Sea through the context of the songs of praise from Moses, and his siblings, Aaron and Miriam. There is no memory quiz this week.
8th Social Studies
This week we will wrap up Topic 10 with our study of the labor movement, and then the inventions that brought the U.S., and the rest of the world, into the 20th century. We will look at how many of those inventions are still in our lives today. The test on Topic 10 will be on Wednesday, October 29th.
