Mrs. Skoch’s Updates for the Week of Janury 12, 2026

Welcome back to a new week! Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

On Monday we will finish unit 3 by learning about King Solomon’s wisdom, and then we will review for the test on Friday, January 16th. There is no memory verse.

6th Social Studies

This week we will finish learning about the Chinese philosophies of Confucianism and Daoism. Then, we will study the short, but important Qin Dynasty, especially focusing on the mysterious clay army and the political philosophy, Legalism. We will end the week by studying the rise of the Han Dynasty, which could be considered the “golden age” of Ancient China.

7th Religion

This week we will focus on the ministry of the prophet Elisha, who replaced Elijah. We will study how he saved the son of the Shunammite woman and how Jehu was anointed King of Israel. The memory verse this week is Deuteronomy 6:5.

7th Social Studies

The students will have their test on Topic 4 on Wednesday, January 14th, Then, we will begin learning about he presidency of George Washington and how he set many important precedents for future presidents.

8th Religion

This week we will learn about important miracles performed by Elisha the prophet. Then, we will study the fall of Israel and Judah. The memory verse this week is Jeremiah 31:3.

8th Social Studies

This week we will study how irresponsible “yellow” journalism led to the outbreak of the Spanish American War by analyzing the facts and opinions of actual newspaper articles from 1898. Then, we will study relations between the U.S. and Latin American at the turn of the 20th century. To end the week, we will begin studying the causes of World War I.
