Mrs. Holder’s Update for the Week of March 9, 2026

Edited 3/9/26 for 6th Grade Math

5th Grade Social Studies – This week we will focus on the Declaration of Independence. Students will also be working on a fun mini-project where they will “break up” with the King of England. They may choose to create a text message exchange, write a letter, compose a song, draw a comic, or record a FaceTime-style video explaining their grievances and why the colonies felt they needed to separate from the king.

5th Grade Science – This week we will complete our graphing of daylight hours throughout the year and begin our lessons on stars and apparent brightness.

5th Grade Religion – Last week we began our study of the New Testament. This week’s lessons will focus on the birth of Jesus. The verse students should memorize for Friday’s quiz is:
“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
Luke 1:46–47

6th Grade Math – There will be a quiz on Expressions and Translations on Monday, March 9. We will continue our work in Algebra with a focus on evaluating expressions.  There will be the Writing and Evaluating Expressions quiz on Friday, March 13.

6th Grade Earth Science – There will be a vocabulary quiz on Section 8.3 on Monday, March 9. Later in the week, students will participate in an Earthquake Engineering Lab where they will design and build a structure using marshmallows and toothpicks that can withstand a simulated earthquake. The Chapter 8 test will take place on Friday, March 13.
