Fabulous Fourth Graders Week of September 29 – October 3

Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families!

It is an exciting and busy week in fourth grade. On Wednesday we will have our NYS parade float, and on Thursday we will be going on our first field trip to the Waterfront Center. On Thursday, we will be leaving Trinity by bus at 9am and will be returning around 1pm. We will be eating lunch at the Waterfront Center. Students must bring their lunch in their lunch boxes. Students must also wear sneakers and their uniform to the Waterfront Center.

Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week’s text is titled After the Storm, from Scholastic Storyworks. We will be focusing on the skill of text evidence. There will be a vocabulary and comprehension quiz based on the text on Friday, October 3rd. In grammar we are learning about simple predicates. In writing we will continue to work on using the R.A.C.E. strategy to answer short response questions. We will also continue our first formal writing activity, our Winn-Dixie Scrapbooks. Our scrapbooks will be due on October 10th, and will be counted as both a test grade and a writing grade.

Math: This week in Math we continue Unit 1: Place Value and Whole Number Operations. Module 2 focuses on adding and subtracting whole numbers. This module is a quick module. The math quiz will be on Thursday 9-30, and a test on 10-1. The quiz and test are similar, and quiz corrections can be completed to earn back points. (I will be going over the math quiz and test policies during back to school night.) Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.

Religion: In religion this week we begin Unit 1-God Creates the World and Calls a Nation. We will be focusing on the book of Genesis.

Social Studies: This week in S.S. we begin our study of the geography of New York. Our driving question is how does geography affect the way we live? We will also be starting our first S.S. project, a New York State parade float. Projects are due by September 30th.

Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is what would happen if you yelled in outer space?

Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
