Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we will continue our first class book, Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. As we read together we will be focusing on learning good reading habits such as self monitoring, and comprehension strategies. There will be a spelling test on Friday 9-19, with words pulled out of Because of Winn-Dixie. In grammar we are learning about the complete subects and complete predicates. In writing we will work on using the R.A.C.E. strategy to answer short response questions.
Math: This week in Math we continue Unit 1: Place Value and Whole Number Operations. Module 1 focuses on the place value of whole numbers. We will have our first math quiz on Wednesday 9-17, and a test on 9-18. The quiz and test are similar, and quiz corrections can be completed to earn back points. (I will be going over the math quiz and test policies during back to school night.) Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.
Religion: In religion this week we begin Unit 1-God Creates the World and Calls a Nation. We will be focusing on the book of Genesis.
Social Studies: This week in S.S. we begin our study of the geography of New York. Our driving question is how does geography affect the way we live? We will also be starting our first S.S. project, a New York State parade float. Projects are due by September 30th.
Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is how do you send a secret code?
I am looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 9-16 for Back to School Night at 7pm.
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
