We welcome the beautiful month of October this week and are looking forward to our trip to White Post Farm on Friday, October 10. All permission slips and payments should be returned to school no later than this Wednesday, October 1.
When sending money to school, kindly send cash and any permission slips in an envelope that is labeled with your child’s name and the name of the related activity, event, or the payment’s purpose. Thanks so much!
Classwork, test, and homework grades to date have been posted online for Language Arts, Math, Religion, Science, and Social Studies.
This week, we will begin
- Writing responses to prompts on a daily basis in our ELA notebooks
- Using Sadlier’s Grammar Workshop: Tools for Writing to strengthen our knowledge and creation of sentences
A spelling test will be given on Friday. Your child will also be interviewing a parent or grandparent about their lives in the past and then creating a then-and-now poster as a culminating activity for our study of families in Social Studies.
In addition, we will be
- Learning more about Moses and the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, the Ten Commandments, the golden calf, and the building of the tabernacle
- Writing our own realistic fiction stories with beginnings, middles, and ends
- Moving on from an exploration of realistic fiction to considering the similarities and differences of families around the world, including a study of related academic vocabulary, decodable spelling words, and high-frequency words
- Identifying and using phonetic blends, words with short e, o, and u, and inflectional endings like –s, -es, -ed, and -ing
- Beginning Module 3 Data in Math, including the collection and recording of data, interpreting picture graphs, drawing picture graphs to represent data, interpreting bar graphs, and drawing bar graphs to represent data
- Continuing with Animal Adventures by taking a look at frogs and toads and than diving into Plant Adventures with a focus on growth, habitat, and seed dispersal and applying what we learn to growing pumpkins
Read-alouds will include the following:
- One Day
- Jump, Frog, Jump
- Pumpkin, Pumpkin
- Growing Pumpkins
- The Pumpkin Patch
Specials will include Library, Art, Critters, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.
