Second Grade – Week of March 23, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

Our class will be in the STEAM Lab this week for Science. Our focus will be on states of matter. We also look forward to participating in the Palm Parade on Wednesday in the playground.

We begin our sixth and seventh books in the Read Across America program. A couple of reminders for your child as they complete their book reports:

  • The words in titles should be underlined. First, last, and important words should be capitalized.
  • Periods are used only at the end of complete sentences.

Thanks!

We have completed our expository essays about musical instruments. The admirable results will be on display in our classroom soon.

There will be a mixed addition and subtraction facts timed test on Wednesday, a spelling test on Thursday, and a Module 15 math test on Friday.

This week, we will also be

  • Learning about the events that occurred before and during the crucifixion of Jesus in Religion.
  • Moving into Week 3 of Unit 4 of our Wonders curriculum with a focus on Earth changes, expository texts, phoneme identification and production, words with r-controlled vowels, high-frequency words, irregular plurals, cause and effect, and decodable readers plus developing vocabulary and identifying and using adverbs and adjectives in ELA
  • Striving to distinguish between addition and subtraction facts and moving on with Module 15 Addition and Subtraction Word Problems in Math
  • Analyzing the impact of heroes in My World’s Chapter 5 “Making a Difference”

Specials will include Library, Art, SEL, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. There will be no Chapel on Wednesday due to the Palm Parade.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
