Second Grade – Week of April 20, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

Spring showers and April flowers, huh? We will celebrate the beauty of it all on Earth Day this Wednesday.

Students wrote excellent realistic fiction stories about heroes, including dialogue, that are on display in our classroom.

There will be a Chapter 5, “Making a Difference,” Social Studies test on Tuesday. Review materials covered in class will be sent home Monday night for further review at home. There will be a spelling test on Thursday. Next week, there will be a Module 17 Math test on Tuesday. Review materials will be sent home the night before the test.

This week, we will be

  • Reviewing stories about Noah and Jonah that were familiar to Jesus and His disciples and learning about the gift of the Holy Spirit, fellowship in the early church, and the restoration of Tabitha in Religion
  • Beginning Unit 5 of our Wonders curriculum with a focus on expository texts, heroes, biographies, phoneme reversal and substitution, the diphthongs ou and ow, high-frequency words, vocabulary, synonyms, summaries, bold print, timelines, author’s purpose, subject pronouns, and decodable readers in ELA
  • Moving forward in Module 17, “Three-Digit Subtraction,” in Math
  • Completing Chapter 5, “Making a Difference,” in My World, learning more about the FIFA World Cup in soccer, and writing opinion essays about whether Lionel Messi may be the GOAT, i.e, the Greatest (soccer) player Of All Time, in Social Studies
  • Reflecting upon the significance and ramifications of Earth Day and the challenges that some sea turtles face in Science

Specials will include Library, Art, Critters, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
