Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! i will be teaching your 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students social studies and religion. Every week you should check for updates on what we will be covering in class this week, as well as notices about tests and any important upcoming events. Here are the updates for our short first week of school.
6th Religion
This week we will start by going over expectations and policies. Once we have done that, we will study Creation in Genesis 1-2, specifically focusing on what it means to be made in the image of God.
6th Social Studies
Sixth grade social studies starts from the period known as prehistory, more commonly known as the Stone Ages. To help get a grasp on this concept, we will go over what BC/BCE and AD/CE mean. Through this process, the students will also learn how to set up their notes each day and how to submit their homework through the Google Classroom. Next week we will get into learning about early humans and how they adapted to their environment.
7th Religion
In religion this week, we will of course begin by going over the class policies, but then we will look at Genesis 1 and 2. These two chapters are both about creation, but they discuss different details about the process. We will compare and contrast both of those accounts.
7th Social Studies
In social studies, we will review policies and how to set up our notes, and then we will get straight into Topic 1, which will go into the earliest culture groups of North and South America- the Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations.
8th Religion
In eighth grade religion, they too are studying creation this week. However, eighth grade will look at how each part of creation sustains life on earth, and what it means that God placed humans in dominion over His creation.
8th Social Studies
Eighth grade social studies will be picking up right where we left off at the end of seventh grade. To recap, we ended the year studying the Civil War and how the Union gained victory over the Confederacy. We will get into Reconstruction in Topic 9. We will study the plans for reuniting north and south, and the plans for equal rights and citizenship for the freedmen. Then, we will get into the sad, darker side of how things spiraled downward after Reconstruction, starting the Jim Crow Era in the south, and how that time period still affects our nation today.
