Welcome to the weekly blog for ECC 4. I will post weekly updates about themes and topics that we are discussing in class to help you initiate communication with your child when they come home from school and tell you the “did nothing” in school today. As we have not been in school since March, we will be taking things slowly and gently when welcoming the children back to school. The first few weeks will be a lot of review, and a lot of reassuring the children to feel comfortable away from caregivers again. This is the tentative plan for this week.

The curriculum we use is called Big Day Pre-K, and there are 8 themes for the school year. Our first theme is “Ready for School”, and our week one topic is “My School”. We will be reading books including My New School, Owen, The Kissing Hand, and Annie, Bea, and Chi Chi Dolores.

The math topic this week is patterns. We will be practicing making patters with math cubes, and counting bears. We will also be reviewing circle, red, and 0 and 1.

For Jesus time we will begin an introduction to Jesus by learning how much Jesus loves us. We will learn “Jesus Loves Me”, and “Jesus Loves the Little Children” songs.

We will also spend a lot of time this week talking about classroom rules and safety, playground rules and safety, hand washing and fire drills.

Through the month of September we will be learning a lot about apples. For this week we will talk about red apples and read I am an Apple, and 10 Apples up on Top.

Centers will look very different this year as the children will not be rotating through centers and sharing toys. Every child will have their own bags of play dough, their own sensory bins, and will be in dyads at their table and share toys between each other. All toys will then be washed at the end of the day.

I have 2 art projects planned for this week, if all goes well. We will make a name collage, and a red cinnamon apple plate.

Have a blessed week everyone and welcome to a wonderful year!
