Happy December

I can hardly believe that it is already Advent, and that we are going into the first full week of December! I am beyond excited to begin to celebrate this holiday season with this amazing group of fourth graders!

This week we will be focusing on the following topics:

ELA- This week we will begin our next novel, The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare. We will be reading Chapters 1-6 this week in class. There will be a vocabulary test on Thursday from our 9 vocabulary words from The Sign of the Beaver. This week’s grammar will be differentiating between compound and complex sentences. Our writing this week will focus on Explanatory Essays learning about Great White Sharks. Our final essay will be due on Friday, we will be writing it together in class throughout the week.

Math- This week we will finish Chapter 4-Divide by 1 digit numbers. Please continue to work on fact fluency at home. Xtramath is an excellent resource to practice math facts.  Please be aware that we will be skipping lessons 4.6-4.9 from GoMath, they will not be included on the test or quiz. Our math quiz will be on 12-7 and the test will be on 12-8.

Social Studies- This week we will finish S.S.Chapter 2, Three Worlds Meet and will be having a test on friday. A review sheet will be completed in class on Tuesday and Wednesday to study.

Science– We will finish our second unit of study, The Birth of Rocks, learning about volcanoes, and erosion and landslides. .

Religion- This week in religion we will be focusing on what is Advent, and beginning our Advent journal.

Please always reach out if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to reach me is through talking points, and I am looking forward to an amazing week learning with an amazing class.
