“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu
We are very excited to welcome back a familiar student to our class this week. So if you are sending in any treats be aware that we now have 16 students, and please remember we are a peanut free class.
In ELA, we are reading Tops and Bottoms, a Trickster Tale. We are focusing on Theme and Point of View. The vocabulary words are risky, grunted, profit, crops, plucked, scowled, tugged, and hollered. We are also working on homophones. We will be taking a test on this story and the vocabulary on Thursday, January 19th.
We are carrying over spelling words from last week. They are all homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently). The words are hole, whole, its, it’s, hear, here, won, one, our, hour, their, there, fur, fir, road, rode, peace, and piece. The Spelling test will be on Wednesday January 18th.
We are taking our first division test on Wednesday. It will cover Chapter 6. There will be extra help at 7:45 on Wednesday morning. Also, we are beginning to use a new program to help build fluency of math facts. The program is called Rocket Math and it focuses on a differentiated approach to building fluency. Each student will be working at his/her own level. I am looking forward to much success with the program.
We are going to have a Science test on Tuesday January 24th. It will cover all of Chapter 2. We have already begun our review for the test.
In Social Studies we are focusing on Canada at Work.
Religion Memory test is on Wednesday. It will cover Proverbs 23:22 …Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
Have a wonderful week!
