Advent is a very special time when we prepare for Christ’s birth on Christmas.  On Sunday, we lit the first candle of Advent.  This candle symbolizes the “Hope” that the Christmas season gifts to us.  This week, we will discover our hopes and dreams for this Christmas season.  We will explore the sights, sounds and smells of the Christmas season as well.

Gg is for gingerbread!  Our learning theme this week will be gingerbread cookies.  We will be reading Jan Brett’s Gingerbread series of books and exploring the works of this very popular children’s author.  Math lessons will include counting on gingerbread ten frames, using math pattern blocks to create Christmas patterns and singing “Five Little Gingerbread Men.”  We will finish the week with a fun gingerbread cooking project.  The children will be measuring, mixing, baking and decorating gingerbread cookies.  It should be a yummy end to a fun filled week!

We will enjoy Christmas themed learning centers at playtime this week as well.  The sensory bin will contain gingerbread cookie cloud dough.  The STEM center will have train tracks design play sets and a pine tree exhibit.  Our Literacy center will have letter Gg work boards, Christmas stories and Little People Christmas imaginary play toys.  The Dramatic Play center will be transformed into a Christmas bakery complete with it’s own holiday decor.  Finally, our Art center will have a variety of art projects to complete including salt watercolor snowflakes, paper gingerbread men designs, fingerprint snowman ornaments and cookie decorating.

Please remember that the Pancake Breakfast with Santa is this Saturday, December 3rd from 10-12.  Please confirm your reservation by December 1st if you plan on attending.  Also, our class Christmas Program will be held on Friday, December 9th.  After a short program in the chapel, there will be light refreshments and a visit from Santa in the little gym.  Please mark your calendars!
