I hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day! We have lots of work to do this week, so here are the updates.

6th Religion

This week we will be focusing quite a bit on Jesus’ cousin, John the Baptist. We will study his ministry leading the way for Jesus, and then Jesus actually getting baptized by John. The memory verse this week is Galatians 3:27, which ties into our theme of baptism.

6th Social Studies

In social studies we will finish up our study of Rome. We will study the fall of the Roman Empire, and the rise of the Byzantine Empire in the east. The lessons will focus greatly on the cultural and religious differences that developed between the eastern and western parts of the Roman Empire. The test on Topic 8: The Roman Empire will be next Tuesday, May 17th. The students will begin reviewing later this week.

7th Social Studies

This week the students will be presenting projects on inventions of the Industrial Revolution and what life was like for African Americans before the Civil War. This will lead into our final unit for the year, Topic 7: Society and Culture Before the Civil War. The overarching theme of this unit is the growing cultural and economic divide between the North and South prior to the Civil War.

8th Religion

This is the final week studying the Old Testament in eighth grade religion! We will learn about the return from the Babylonian Captivity in the of Ezra, and then the prophecies that pointed to the birth of Christ. The memory verse this week is Romans 8:18.

8th Social Studies

Eighth grade has been working on research projects on important American military leaders from World War II. Then, we will work on an activity analyzing WWII propaganda cartoons. We will start reviewing Topic 14: World War II on Thursday, and their test will be on Tuesday, May 17th.
