Welcome back to a new week at Trinity. Happy Lutheran Schools Week/Spirit Week! I am really looking forward to all of the fun activities planned this week, but in our classes, we are picking up right where we left off last week. Details for each class are below.

6th Religion

We are continuing to study the first two kings of Israel, Saul and David. This week we will get into Saul’s downfall, and David becoming king. The overarching theme this week is the importance of repentance. David was a great king, but far from perfect. What made him great is that he acknowledged when he sinned and asked for forgiveness. The memory quiz this week is back on schedule, Wednesday January 26th. The verse is 1 John 4:4.

6th Social Studies

Last week the students learned about the earliest dynasties of Ancient China, the Shang and Zhou. This week we will be focusing more on the cultural aspects of China, such as Confucianism, and the unification of China. Next week, we will do some special activities to celebrate Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, which will fit right into our curriculum.

7th Social Studies

Last we week studied the first attempts at a Constitution for the United States. This week, we will study the ideas that influenced our system of government, and the Bill of Rights. I shared with the students that this was added on as a promise that the U.S. government will always protect our individual rights.

8th Social Studies

Last week we learned about immigration and urbanization of the early 1900s, and the problems that arose during this time period. This week, we will get into the Progressive policies and leaders who worked to solve these problems and make society safer and more equitable.

8th Religion

This week we are continuing to study the era of the Judges. We will finish learning about Samson, and then we will study the book of Ruth, who lived during this time, and became an important ancestor of people such as King David and Jesus. Then we will study the last judge of Israel, Samuel. The memory verse for this week is Isaiah 48:17. The quiz will be on Thursday, January 27th.
