Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! I hope that all of you had a blessed Easter, and a safe and healthy break. After over a week off from school, we are full speed ahead in social studies and religion. Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

This week we will be reviewing unit 4, as we completed the unit before Easter. The test will be on Friday, April 29th. The review will be posted on the Google Classroom on Monday, April 25th.

6th Social Studies

In social studies, we will begin our second unit on ancient Rome, Topic 8: The Roman and Byzantine Empires. This is an important unit in many ways. Not only is this the first time we will be studying events with the dates labeled as AD or CE, but we will actually learn the history of Christianity and how Jesus changed the world, beyond giving salvation to all who believe. We will also focus quite a bit on the cultural legacy of ancient Rome, especially the language and architecture.

7th Social Studies

This week we will complete the second half of Topic 6. We will study the westward movement and the settlement of the west. One of the topics we will be discussing is the Oregon Trail, which some of us of a certain age will vividly remember learning about from a popular computer game from childhood. We will also learn about the settlement of California, and the complicated history of the state of Texas.

8th Religion

This week we will be reviewing unit 4, as we completed the unit before Easter. The test will be on Friday, April 29th. The review will be posted on the Google Classroom on Monday, April 25th.

8th Social Studies

On Monday, we will begin the unit that many of the students have anticipated for almost two years: World War II. This will be in conjunction with their work in Language Arts. Our visit to the Nassau County Holocaust Museum and Memorial will help tie everything together. In social studies class, we will focus on the causes of the war, the battles, and how the U.S. was involved in the war. In Language Arts, they will focus on the Holocaust and the impact of Hitler’s evil and disgusting “final solution.”
