Welcome back to a new week! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. We are now entering into the season of Advent as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior, and look forward to His return. That being said, while this is a special season, we still have plenty of work to do. Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

This week we are studying the final days of the Israelites wandering int he wilderness. We will read about he account of Moses losing his temper and the consequences of his actions. Then, we will read about the always interesting incident of Balaam and his donkey. The memory verse for this week is Numbers 24:17, one of the many Old Testament prophecies about the birth of Jesus.

6th Social Studies

In social studies, the students will be studying the different religion that emerged from ancient India- Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Throughout each lesson, we will keep focused on the fact that these religions are far from what we believe as Christians, but we need to learn what other people believe and how that affects their culture.

7th Social Studies

To start the week, the students will be finishing the research they started on Gullah culture, and they will present their projects on Tuesday. Then, we will get into the new ideas that spread through the colonies, which was the beginning of a uniquely American culture and mindset. These ideas will ultimately lead to the movement of independence from England. They will have their test on Chapter 4, next Thursday, December 10th. The study guide will be available in my next post.

8th Social Studies

This week the students will continue to studying how the United States became more urban and “modernized” at the turn of the 20th century. They will present their projects on African American entrepreneurs and inventors on Monday, and then we will study urbanization, immigration, and changes in education.

8th Religion

In religion this week, we will be finishing up unit 2 with our lessons on Rahab helping the spies, and Joshua leading the battle of Jericho. Both of these lessons teach us that God often uses unlikely people and unconventional means to accomplish His will. The memory verse for the week is Psalm 46:1,7.
