Greetings to one and all. I cannot believe that we are entering our third month of school already! Time is flying by.

This is a big week for our nation, as we hold our presidential election. We will touch upon the election in each of the social studies classes, but I ask that you also talk with your children. This year will be especially difficult since we will probably not know the official results right away. Regardless of which candidate wins the election, we have the hope of Jesus Christ as our King and the reassurance of God’s guidance and protection. Other than the election, here are the plans for this week in my classes.

6th Religion

This week we will begin Unit 2, which starts with the call of Moses. We will then study the Exodus from Egypt, beginning with the Plagues and the Passover, followed by the Red Sea crossing. The memory verse for this week is The memory verse for this week is Isaiah 55:8. The quiz is on Thursday.

6th Social Studies

In social studies we will focus on the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms of Ancient Egyptian history this week, which ties in with our current area of studying in religion class. The students will also learn about the process of mummification and will mummify apple slices. We will check on them over the next two weeks to see how they progress.

7th Social Studies

This week we are continuing to focus on the 13 English Colonies. We will read and discuss an article on the “witches” of Salem. Spoiler: There were no actual witches, just bullying and targeting marginalized members of the community. Then, we will study the settlement and cultures of the Middle and Southern colonies.

8th Social Studies

On Monday, the students will be researching modern day Native Americans and what life is like on reservations. This will tie in with the lesson we finished about the “Indian” Wars. Then, we will get into the growth of the cattle industry and the homesteaders that moved west. On Friday, we will start the chapter 17 review. The chapter test will be Friday, November 13th. The study guide will be posted in my next blog.

8th Religion

Last week, the students learned about the Exodus and the Red Sea crossing. This week, we will get into what life was like in the wilderness of the Sinai Peninsula. We will focus on God providing food and water for His people, as well as the 10 Commandments, and how they relate to us as modern Christians. The memory verse for this week is  Exodus 15:13. The quiz is on Friday.
