Mrs. Seemangal’s ’20-’21 Pre-K: Week of March 1, 2021

Hello Parents! Happy March! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We have an exciting week ahead – welcoming in March, Dr. Seuss’s birthday and practicing for our Spring Show.  Please remember to complete the daily attestations each morning prior to coming to school.

This week we will continue our letters and numbers. We will be learning the letter Vv and we will continue reviewing the numbers 1-20 and work on number recognition using ten frames. We will start learning sight words.  The words for this week are “a” and “green”. We are continuing our theme from February – Imagine it, Make it. Our fourth unit will focus on “Art All Around Us.” The big idea is that I can enjoy art that other people have made. The vocabulary words we will learn this week are: art, appreciate, artist, design, and sculpture. We will reread the books “Harold and the Purple Crayon”, “Dots Dots Dots”, and “White Rabbit’s Color Book.”  We will read “10 Dots” and go on a scavenger hunt around the classroom to find dots.  With the dots we find, we will create our own masterpiece to hang in our very own Classroom Museum for everyone to appreciate. We will also go on a virtual field trip to learn about the art of glass blowing and see that artists come in all different forms. The math concepts for this week are bigger and smaller.

This is Read Across America Week and we’ve got a lot of fun things planned as we Celebrate Reading! I hope your child can participate: Monday is wear something red and/or blue day; Tuesday is wear your favorite/crazy pair of socks day; Wednesday is get wacky day and wear your clothes backwards, inside out or mismatched day; Thursday is wear something green day; and Friday is pajama or something comfy day!  We will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday with great books and fun crafts!

This week’s Scholastic Weekly Reader, titled “In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb” will introduce the month of March to the children as we begin to talk about spring and all the great things that come with it.  For Jesus time we will learn that Jesus heals a deaf man and heals a blind man.
