Welcome to a new week in second grade!

A new day, a new week, a new sunrise, a new blessing.

Make the most of it and ENJOY YOUR DAY AND WEEK!

Language Arts

We will complete our novel study of the fictional story, Herbie Sails into Second Grade. This week we will focus on character traits, author’s purpose, sequence of events and creating a mental image of what we’ve read.

We are “brushing up” on our sentence writing, remembering the importance of capitalization, punctuation and proofreading what we wrote!

Math

Even and Odd Numbers

Understanding Place Value

Expanded Form

Social Studies

We begin to understand our textbook and how information will be presented using bar graphs and flow charts. Map and graph skills will be introduced.

Science

How do scientists know so much? Get ready to think like a scientist!

Handwriting/Manuscript

We will be laying the foundation for handwriting instruction. Review of the correct positions for sitting, holding a pencil and positioning the paper will help guide students to write legibly. Review of the basic strokes used to form all the manuscript letters will begin this week.

Letters L l,  I i, T t, O o

Religion-Thank you for your toilet paper/paper towel rolls! We have a good supply for the prayer box project we will begin to talk about this week.

The Bible is distinct from any other book. How? What are characteristics of the Bible? What are the books of the Bible?

We will add the prayer, Hold My Hand, to our prayer journal.

We will have Chapel Wednesday morning.
