Reading

Wonders: In our anthology, we will read a realistic fictional story,  Big Red Lollipop 

•Spelling words  went, tell, pet, job, fog, not, tug, hut, tub, bun, fix, has, one, or, see-Test Friday

•Vocabulary words  language, plead, fair, invited, share, culture, aside, scurries 

•Making inferences using text and illustrations throughout the story

 

Phonics Focus

•long vowel sounds a, i, o, u, e

Writing

•reflect and respond to our reading by writing in our Reading/Writing Companion, understanding how we use text evidence to support our responses

•poetry/writing journals-fall poems and October writing prompts

•writing good sentences that make sense, making sure our sentences have punctuation and capitalization

Grammar

•review of types of sentences: commands, exclamations, interjections

Handwriting

•manuscript  letters  U u, S s, B b, P p

•focusing on size of our letters in our daily work-differentiating between letters that touch headline/midline/baseline

 

Math-Test Wednesday Module 1

•Adding 3 numbers and using mental math strategies

•“Numbers About Me” and word problem solving- Math journal work

Important Information and News: 

Thank you to Mrs. Bumpass and Mrs. King who are coordinating donations as well as a fun craft for our fall/pumpkin second grade celebration taking place next Monday, October 31. Students may wear orange next Monday.

Please send in $10 per student for craft/party supplies if you have not done so already. A note has been sent home. Thank you!

Keep November 17th open on your calendars for Parent Teacher Conferences. Be sure to look for incoming information from the Main Office regarding specifics on signing up for a time slot. 

•Homework Please encourage as much independence as possible when completing homework. Homework is expected to be done neatly. The children will be writing their assignments in their planners. Kindly initial their planner each night. Take Home Folders will need to be emptied every night as well. Thank you!
