Scripture Art Psalm 107:1 Fall leaves give thanks image 1

In the fading of the summer sun,

The shortening of the days, cooling breeze,

Swallows’ flight and moonlight rays

We see the Creator’s hand

In the browning of leaves once green,

Morning mists, autumn chill

Fruit that falls, frost’s first kiss

We see the Creator’s hand

Enjoy the long weekend! There will be no school Monday, October 11.

Language Arts-Reading Test Fri. Oct. 15

We continue to read in our Journeys this week My Family, an informational text. Part of our homework for this week will be to read at home and write about the story.

We had our first spelling test on Friday! Everyone did fantastic! A bonus word will always be added which gives an opportunity to gain 5 extra points to the grade. Spelling dictation sentences are also a part of our test for two purposes. First, to use weekly spelling words (or words with the same vowel phonics patterns)  in complete sentences and the other is to reinforce grammar that has already been taught.

High frequency sight words for this week include: bring, children, comes, do, family, like, make, those, use, with

Grammar Goal: understanding what a simple sentence consists of (subject/predicate)

Phonics Focus: short vowels o, u, e and CVC syllable patterns

Writer’s Workshop: We begin to understand the steps of the writing process and learn why authors write. We will write sentences about our family this week and read friendly letters from Mrs. Ryan each morning.

We have one parent who has volunteered to be a Mystery Reader! Thank you! Are YOU interested in becoming a MYSTERY READER? If so, please email me so we can set up a date and time for you to “Zoom in” and share a book with our class! We hope everyone will take part in this fun activity and spend some time with us!

• Please remember to send in extra masks for your son/daughter just in case a backup is needed!
