Week 10
“Nothing will work unless you do.” – Maya Angelou
Election Day is on Tuesday. Please make sure you get out and vote! Our class voted on Scholastic.com, and 100% of the class voted for Hillary Clinton. When Scholastic tallied all the votes across our nation, Mrs. Clinton won. The Scholastic Student Vote may not be official, but the results are often very telling. Scholastic has conducted the student mock vote during every presidential election since 1940. The results of the student vote have mirrored the actual outcome of all but two elections. In 1948, kids voted for Thomas E. Dewey over Harry S. Truman, and in 1960, they selected Richard M. Nixon over John F. Kennedy. We will have to wait and see how our results compare to the actual election.
Veteran Day is on Friday, and we have the day off. Please remember veterans on this day.
I know it’s early, but we are all getting excited about our Christmas pageant. Mr. DeVries has assigned the parts and we have begun practicing in the classroom. Please help your child prepare by going over lines and making sure that your child has his or her costume (once Mr. DeVries lets you know what they are).
The children did outstanding on their first multiplication test. Most of the grades were in the 90’s or 100’s. Now we are going to begin to memorize the facts. The first multiplication test is on Wednesday, November 9th, and it will cover 2 as a factor. On Tuesday, November 15th, we are going to have 3 as a factor.
We are reading Bat Love the Night and will have both the comprehension and vocabulary tests on Wednesday, November 16th. We will focus on the target skills Sequence of Events and Domain-Specific Vocabulary. Our target strategy is question. Our vocabulary words are twitch, swoops, squeak, echoes, detail, slithers, dozes, and snuggles.
On Tuesday, November 15th, we will have both the spelling and grammar tests. The Spelling words are math, toast, easy, socks, Friday, stuff, paid, cheese, June, elbow, program, shiny, piles, stick, each, bath, comb, and holiday. The grammar test will focus on verbs.
We are having a memory test on The First Commandment and its meaning on Wednesday, November 9th.
In Science, we finished our investigation of seeds, and now we are going to move onto animals.
Finally, an email will be going out to all shortly, with the information for signing up for a conference. Please sign up as I look forward to meeting with you.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know at [email protected] Have a wonderful week.
