Here’s a look at what we will be doing the week of 3/13/22 in first grade:

Spelling– The new words are: find, by, night, boat, caught, night, kind, pie, no, listen. The words should be written 3x each and 4 sentences by Thursday. Test on Friday.

Phonics– The focus will be on long vowel sounds in words, especially long e: ee, ea, e_e words and long i: igh, y, ie.

Reading– We will read fiction stories this week. The new “R” book words are: caught, flew, know, laugh, listen, were.
The students will learn to add the ending -es or -ed to a word that ends with long i spelled y, first change the y to i.
Example: dry + es = dries.
We will learn to look for context clues to figure out the meaning of new words in sentences, and that we should underline titles of books.

Grammar– Irregular verbs SEE and SAW

Math– Continue with chapter 10, place value. There will be a test (tentatively) on Tuesday, 3/21.

Social Studies– American Heroes

Science– Rainbows

Weekly Reader– Women’s History

NEWS

The 2nd trimester ends this Friday. It’s hard to believe we will be in the last trimester of first grade!

We will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Friday with special crafts and green snacks! The children may dress down and wear GREEN on Friday.
