Cameron has a new baby brother!! Congratulations to his family as they welcome Owen Thomas to their family!!

Here’s a look at what we will be doing this week:

Spelling– The new words for this week are low, boat, row, we, over, no, oat, toe, keep, more. The children should write them 3x each and write 3 sentences by Thursday. Test on Friday.

Phonics– We will focus on the long u sound in words: u_e, and ui.

Reading– We will read nonfiction selections this week, and read some poetry. The new “R” book words are: find, food, more, over, start, warm. The focus will be on long o words: oa, ow, oe, o_e, and irregular verbs Go and Do. We will also be writing sentences with proper nouns. The test will be on Friday.

As you know, the first part of our weekly reading test is comprehension. I have been reading the story to the class each week, and they answer questions about the story. The children are now supposed to be reading the story on their own at this point of the school year. I am not going to start that until the 3rd trimester begins in a couple of weeks, but I want you to be aware of what they are going to be asked to do for the reading tests.

Math– We will have a test Tuesday on place value (tens and ones place). There will be a practice test on Monday. We will then begin chapter 10 which continues on with place value and numbers up to 120.

Weekly Reader– Fiction and Nonfiction

Religion– Jesus’ miracles

Social Studies– American songs

Science– Animal Superpowers

NEWS
Book Reports are due on Monday, 3/6. Please make sure your child brings it to school if you have not already sent it. I will be displaying them in the hallway.

I will be sending home a Reading List this week. I always encourage the children to read to someone at home nightly, and I know many of you read to your children. Please write down the books that your child reads (or that you read to them). When 10 books have been read, send the list back to school before Easter break, and your child will receive a reward.

Have a great week!
