I hope everyone enjoyed the week off for Winter Recess! Here’s a look at what we are doing this week:

Spelling- The new words for this week are: other, keep, beak, play, because, we, feed, seat, rain, me. The spelling words and 3 sentences are due by Thursday. Please encourage your child to write their own sentences, and use at least 5 words in a sentence. The test will be on Friday.

Phonics- We will focus on words with long e and long o sounds.

Reading- We will be reading nonfiction stories this week. We will focus on prefixes re-, un-, and pre-; capitalization and end punctuation; irregular verbs Has and Have; context clues in sentences. The “R” book words are: because, blue, into, or, other, small. The Reading test will be given on Friday.

Math- We will begin module(chapter) 9 on place value. The children will learn about the tens and ones place in numbers. It is a very short chapter, only 3 lessons, so we will have a test next Tuesday, 3/7. We will be doing a lot of practice with this concept, it is important that they understand it before going on to the next chapter.

Social Studies- American Documents

Religion- Stories about Jesus’ Miracles

Science- Light

News

We will be visiting the Scholastic Book Fair (in the youth/senior room) on Wednesday this week. Your child will have the opportunity to purchase books if you send in money for them to shop that day.

I will be sending home a form for a March Book Report. I am working with the class on writing about what they read, and they will have to write a few things about a book that they read at home(or a book that is read to them). Please let me know if you have any questions when you see the form. I will send it home this Monday, and it should be completed and brought back to school by the folowing Monday(3/6).

Have a great week!
Mrs. Flomer
