I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and the beautiful weather! Here’s a look at what we will be doing this week in first grade:

Spelling- The words for this week are: pin, hit, win, sit, miss, kiss, nap, can, out, up. The last 2 spelling words on the list are from our “R” book high frequency words. The children should write their words 3x each in their “S” books by Thursday this week. Test will be on Friday.

Reading- We will be reading a new story, “GO PIP” in our reading books this week. Hopefully the students who are waiting for their readers will get them this week. We will be reading the story together on the smartboard until then.
The high frequency words are: down, out, up and every. They are in the students’ “R” books which should be brought back to school on Friday (test day). Children should review ALL the words in their “R” book nightly.

Phonics- shorti, rhyming, phonemes

Math- We will finish the chapter on subtraction strategies this week. There will not be a test until next week as I will be spending time reviewing all the strategies we have learned to make sure the children have an understanding of the concepts before the test. The test will be next Tuesday, 10/18.

Religion- Stories about Joseph and Moses

Science- Animal habitats
