Welcome to May! The weather is finally getting warmer and we are definitely enjoying our outside time. We have been making lots of wishes on all of the dandelion puffs we find in the fields. We have been able to watch them grow from buds, to yellow flowers, and finally to puffballs that are fun to collect and blow on.

The week is week 4 in our Big Day Unit Nature All Around Us, and our theme is “The Seasons”. Our vocabulary words this week are: season, winter, spring, summer, and fall. We will read The Apple Pie Tree, What Makes the Seasons, and Look, Listen, and Learn.

For math we will be reviewing the number 9 and patterns. The children have done so well this year with learning and understanding patterns. I am so proud of them!

For Jesus time we will continue practicing the Lord’s prayer as well as their favorite song All God’s Critters; I’m sure you have heard them singing it at home. We are also practicing our songs for the closing program and we will read the story Jesus Knows My Name.

This week we will begin introducing sight words in preparation for kindergarten. The words for this week are a, I, is, it, in. There will be worksheets in the homework packet for practice.

We have a lot going on in our classroom for science! We have been seeds growing, and today we planted dandelion seeds that we picked outside to see if we can grow dandelions. All of our Ladybugs are in their pupa stage so in a few days they should hatch out and we will have Ladybugs! Our Praying Mantis egg case is still just hanging out but we are watching eagerly for it to hatch. I ordered more caterpillars since our previous ones had arrived during Easter break the children did not really get to observe the caterpillars before the chrysalis stage. So we will watch the butterfly life cycle again. This week we will talk more about bees and learn words like pollen and pollination.

We will be making a special Mother’s Day craft, and are doing a science experiment for Mother’s Day as well this week.

We will be reviewing letters by matching capital and lowercase letters together.

This week we will have Chapel and Gym on Wednesday, Spanish and Art on Thursday, and Mr. Stainkamp with the Critters on Friday.

Have a blessed week everyone!
