Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing few weeks off.

The first order of business this week is to have our Christmas celebration on Monday with pjs, and hot cocoa, a movie, and a special surprise! We will also talk about New Years with our Weekly Reader and make a cute handprint 2022 craft.

This week we start a new Unit in our Big Day curriculum called Amazing Animals. Our first topic is All Kinds of Animals. We will read Biggest, Strongest, Fastest, Is Your Mama a Llama, and Roar. Our vocabulary words will be: animal, feathers, fur, scales, climb, fly, and swim. We will take a look at two different posters and compare different animal habitats. We will then make a poster with paw prints and keep track of all the helpers in the classroom.

This week we will learn the letter Kk. We will read “Kicky Kangaroo” and make a K is for Kangaroo craft.

We will begin learning new numbers this week, with the number 11. If your child is still unsure of 1-10, please review with them both rote counting and recognition. We will also be comparing in math this week with the vocabulary: height, length, and order.

For Jesus time this week we will continue to talk about Jesus birth, leading up to Epiphany on Thursday January 6. On that day the children will give their layette item to Jesus by placing it in the manger as we learn about the gifts that the wise men brought to Jesus.

Other seasonal activities will include reading and counting with Anno’s Counting book, and reading the book and watching the video for Chicken Soup with Rice. Both books review the months of the year.

This week we will also begin Progress Report screening for parent-teacher conferences on Friday January 28th.

Have a blessed week!
