Welcome to second grade’s Class Notes!
I hope your second grader is beginning to feel comfortable in our classroom as we get to know one another better. Our first three days were filled with review of routines, reading, and remembering…Routines were learned, books were read aloud, and we are trying to remember many new things as this new year begins!
Thank you to all of the parents who bought, bagged, and brought your child’s supplies in to school last Tuesday! Already I see parents who are so invested in their child’s education and well-being and how wonderful and important that is.
Literature plays a big role in second grade. Stories teach, entertain, and widen our worlds. Here are some we’ve shared together this week….
This story sparked a conversation about how our own summers were spent. We are beginning our first writing piece, a personal narrative, where we will share our most favorite summer memory.
At this point in time, I’ll not only be taking inventory on each child’s supplies but also their academic strengths and weaknesses in order to best meet their needs and build upon the skills they already possess. Math and Reading Benchmarks will be given this week. Please be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep each night and let’s not forget how important a healthy breakfast is in the morning! We will break for snack time around 10:00 a.m. every day. Remember to pack a snack and a refillable water bottle each day. Homework begins this week. Please initial your child’s planner each night. Back to School Night will be next Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
Dear Lord,
As the summer begins to fade and new possibilities lie on the horizon, we begin this new school year asking that You might send Your spirit upon the children and fill them with Your wisdom and blessings. We thank You for the promise of the days ahead and for the blessing of Your accompaniment. Be with us this year.
Amen
