Week 14

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” – Maya Angelou

Last week was a busy week as we “Decked the Hall” in preparation for Christmas season. The children really had fun brainstorming ideas and then seeing their plans come to fruition.  The hallway looks great, and I am so proud of everyone’s effort.

We have a very busy week ahead of us. Here is a quick overview as to what we are adding to our schedule this week.

On Monday, we are going to be rehearsing in the Christmas Pageant in the gym Everyone should have his or her lines memorized.

On Tuesday, we are watching the Christmas Assembly for the older students, and we also have our rehearsal. In addition to that, we will be going to the Santa Shop in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, we have rehearsal.

On Thursday, we have a big rehearsal with the Kindergarten, First, and Second graders.

On Friday, we are going to Hofstra.

First, please go over the lines for the play with your child.  All lines should be memorized by now. Additionally, during parent-teacher conferences, I handed you a paper from Mr. DeVries with costume suggestions. Please make sure that your child has his or her costume. The play is on Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m.. Everyone needs their costume in school by Monday, December 12th for dress rehearsals.

Second, Santa Shop is on Tuesday afternoon. If you would like your child to participate, please send in the money by Tuesday morning.

Third, permission slips for our Hofstra Museum trip are due. We are going to the museum on Friday. We will be eating our lunch at the museum, so please remember to back your child lunch on that day. Mrs. Sanders and I will be sending home a follow-up note to all parents who have volunteered to join us on this trip.

The spelling words for the week are itch, wreck, knee, patch, wrap, knot, watch, knife, stretch, write, knew, knock, match, wrong, know, catch, wrinkle, and knuckle.  We are having a spelling test on Friday.

This week we are reading The Harvest Birds and we are working on the strategies infer/predict. We are also working on conclusions and literal and nonliteral meanings. In grammar, we are focusing on using commas.  We are not going to take a test on these two topics this week.

Also, the students are enjoying our current read aloud, The World According to Humphrey.

In Math we are beginning our last chapter on multiplication. We are having 6 as a factor test on Tuesday, and 7 as a factor test on Friday.

Finally, I am very concerned about lines being memorized for the play. In order to help alleviate some of the memorization stress, I am not going to be giving religion memory tests on December 7th and December 14th. We will just resume our schedule on the 21st.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
