Week 27
“You are never strong enough that you don’t need help.” – Cesar Chavez
This past Sunday, the children sang in chapel and sounded angelic. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
This week we are being visited by Hofstra’s art museum as part of our Art Traveler’s program. We will be going to see them on Wednesday, March 29th. Be on the look out for a permission slip.
In ELA this week we are reading “A Tree is Growing”. We are working on using text and graphic features and domain-specific words. The spelling words are shark, check, queen, circus, flake, crack, second, squeeze, quart, squeak, quick, coldest, Africa, Mexico, black, thank, correct, and question.
We are also working in our vocabulary books this week. Unit 5 is due on Friday. The children will have plenty of opportunities to complete the pages at school (if they are working to the best of their abilities). I will be sending the book home each night to help with pacing.
Handwriting workbook will also be going home for some students each night to practice in. Some students are finished or almost finished their handwriting book. Those children know who they are, and they should complete their spelling homework in cursive.
In Math, we are continuing to work on fractions. I sent home on Friday an extra help packet for some students who did not do well on their last test. Those packets are due back to school on Tuesday. We are having a Math quiz on Wednesday. There is also rocket math homework each night this week (except Friday).
In Science, we are working on how living things interact. During library this week, I am going to have the children select animal books as we are going to begin our research report.
In Social Studies, we are studying South Africa’s government. Did you know that South Africa has 3 capital cities? We are then going to focus on South Africa at work.
In Religion, we are discussing Genesis chapters 2 and 3 and angels. We have a test on the 8th commandment and its meaning.
The Eighth Commandment
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
